Mineralogy
Clear quartz is the colorless, transparent member of the quartz family. A bead can contain veils or inclusions and still be quartz; visual clarity is a separate quality description.

How Color Forms
Clear appearance means that visible light is not strongly absorbed by the color-producing mechanisms found in colored varieties. Cloudiness and colored inclusions should be described separately.
Varieties & Names
Rock crystal is the established variety name. Double termination describes crystal shape; a name containing “diamond” does not make quartz a diamond.
Localities
Rock crystal is widely distributed; the Australian Museum records occurrences throughout Australia. A broad occurrence list cannot establish where a particular bracelet originated.
Identification & Treatments
Colorless glass and laboratory-grown quartz can resemble natural quartz. Appearance alone cannot certify natural origin. Ask for material identity, treatment disclosure and testing appropriate to the value of the item.
Care
For finished bead jewelry, begin with a soft cloth and follow the instructions for the whole piece, including cord, metal and any coatings. Avoid impacts and sudden heat changes. Do not use abrasive home authenticity tests; they can damage a finished surface.
