How Color Forms

Selected amethyst material can develop green color after heating, as discussed in Gem-A’s treatment literature. Different green-looking quartz products may involve different materials or processes.

Varieties & Names

Use prasiolite with treatment disclosure. “Green amethyst” is a commercial description that can obscure the distinction between purple amethyst and a green quartz product.

Localities

The cited Gem-A discussion refers to Montezuma starting material for heat-produced green quartz. That treatment example is not a universal origin statement for all prasiolite on the market.

Identification & Treatments

Ask the seller to identify the material and disclose color treatment. Do not infer a natural untreated origin from a pale green shade, a botanical product name or a symbolic association.

Care

For finished bead jewelry, begin with a soft cloth and follow the instructions for the whole piece, including cord, metal and any coatings. Avoid impacts and sudden heat changes. Do not use abrasive home authenticity tests; they can damage a finished surface.
