How Color Forms

Its contrasting zones express the colors associated with amethyst and citrine within one piece of quartz. A sharp boundary can influence how a cutter orients the finished gem.

Varieties & Names

Amethyst-citrine is an alternative name. A loose assortment of separate purple and yellow beads should not be described as a single ametrine crystal.

Localities

GIA identifies Bolivia’s Anahi mine as the established commercial natural source in its reference. This does not authenticate the origin of any individual item offered under that name.

Identification & Treatments

Bicolor appearance alone cannot establish natural origin or exclude synthetic, treated or assembled material. Ask for identity and color-origin disclosure when these claims affect value.

Care

For finished bead jewelry, begin with a soft cloth and follow the instructions for the whole piece, including cord, metal and any coatings. Avoid impacts and sudden heat changes. Do not use abrasive home authenticity tests; they can damage a finished surface.
