Mineral Families & Varieties
Start with quartz
The Quartz Family
Clear quartz, amethyst, rose quartz, smoky quartz and more. Learn how one mineral can take many forms.
Varieties, crystal forms & properties →How to read this library
Four useful layers
Mineral family → variety → crystal form or inclusion → commercial name. A trade name does not automatically identify a new mineral species.
Material facts. Personal meaning.
Mineralogy describes a stone’s composition, structure and physical properties. Chakra and Five Elements associations belong to cultural symbolism and our design language. We keep these two ways of reading a crystal clearly separate.
Natural crystals can contain inclusions, growth lines, internal fractures and color variation. These features are part of their individuality. Product descriptions should also disclose known treatments and any damage that affects use.
